One Month Out from Election Day, Michiganders for Money Out of Politics Launches Six-Figure Ad Campaign Urging Michiganders to Vote Yes on Prop 2

MICHIGAN – Today, with one month until Election Day, the Michiganders for Money Out of Politics’ Yes on Proposal 2 Campaign launched a six-figure digital ad campaign targeting voters across the state.

The digital video ad “Mess” began airing today across social media and streaming platforms – including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube TV, Hulu, Paramount+, Peacock, Tubi, Roku, and ESPN+ – targeting hundreds of thousands of Michigan voters statewide. With just four weeks left until Election Day, the ad will serve as a reminder to Michiganders that they have the power to rein in out-of-control corporate spending in their politics and demand better of their government at the ballot box.

“The moment for Michiganders to take our government back from powerful corporate interests is here. Voters have already started to fill out their ballots – now is the time in the next four weeks to end this corrupt pay-to-play system and make sure it’s our voices that are heard, not the voices of big corporations bankrolling our politicians,” said Maura Cowley, Campaign Manager for the Michiganders for Money Out of Politics campaign. “Our new ad makes clear the high stakes at hand: Will we allow our government to remain up for sale to the highest bidder, or will we finally hold monopoly utilities and powerful corporations accountable and put the people of Michigan back in charge?”

The ads build off the campaign’s growing momentum across the state. In August, Detroit News-WDIV-TV (Channel 4)polling and new Progress Michigan polling showed overwhelming support across party lines for the MMOP ballot proposal, at 71.5% and 80% supporting Proposal 2 respectively.

VO:

Money in Michigan politics is a mess. Monopoly utilities and dark money groups fork over campaign cash to the same career politicians who are supposed to hold them accountable.

And who’s stuck footing the bill? You.

Proposal 2 cracks down on pay-to-play politics and politicians trading favors for campaign cash. It’s time to stop corruption that raises your bills and make sure elected leaders are working for you, not wealthy donors.

Let’s get money out of politics. Vote YES on Proposal 2.

The Michiganders for Money Out of Politics campaign is a citizen-led ballot initiative that would ban political contributions from regulated monopoly utilities, such as DTE and Consumers Energy, as well as corporations that seek or hold large state and local government contracts like Blue Cross Blue Shield. The initiative would also close the dark money “issue ad loophole” and modernize Michigan’s campaign finance disclosure requirements.
