Michiganders for Money Out of Politics Shames DTE for Yet Another Massive Rate Hike Request As “Corporate Greed At Its Finest”

Voters Will Have the Opportunity to Make Their Voices Heard and Vote Yes on Prop 2 to Rein in Corporate Money in Politics this November

MICHIGAN – Following yet another DTE rate hike request on Friday, just hours after the Michigan Public Service Commission approved the company’s $74 million hike from earlier this year, Christy McGillivray, Co-Chair of the Michiganders for Money Out of Politics Executive Committee, released the following statement:

“This is corporate greed at its finest – just hours after their last $74 million rate hike was approved, DTE has the nerve to ask for more from Michiganders. DTE and monopoly utilities’ bottomless corporate greed is shameful, it’s gone on for too long, and we’re tired of it.

DTE knows they control our politicians. That’s why they continue to empty our pockets and get away with it. This corrupt pay-to-play system in Lansing is fundamentally broken, and on Election Day, we can finally put an end to it by voting yes on Prop 2.”

The Michiganders for Money Out of Politics campaign is a citizen-led ballot initiative that would ban political contributions from regulated monopoly utilities, such as DTE and Consumers Energy, as well as corporations that seek or hold large state and local government contracts like Blue Cross Blue Shield. The initiative would also close the dark money “issue ad loophole” and modernize Michigan’s campaign finance disclosure requirements.
