On Prop 2: Vote yes
“Proposal 2026-2: A proposed initiated law to prohibit campaign contributions from certain regulated utilities and government contractors and apply campaign finance laws and regulations to additional types of political communications.”
This proposal would legally limit the amount that corporations like DTE and other utility companies can contribute to all campaigns. Corporate spending in elections has given rise to voter skepticism of politicians’ loyalties — are they beholden to those entities, or to the people? This Editorial Board believes that minimizing corporate influence in elections is imperative to ensure politicians’ primary focus lies with their constituents. To begin doing so, Michiganders must vote yes on Prop 2.
