LANSING – With just under two months to go before the statutory filing deadline, Michiganders for Money Out of Politics (Mop Up Michigan) is pulling out all the stops to make sure every voter who wants to fight back against corruption and money in politics can make their voice heard by signing the petition.

The initiative recently announced a mail program that will put petitions directly in the hands of interested signers. Thousands of voters have already signed up to receive a petition directly to their mailboxes, and the first batch of petitions have been sent out.

“We always knew that this petition would be really popular, and our only challenge is getting it in front of signers,” said Courtney Otto, Campaign Manager for Mop Up Michigan. “Now we’re able to do that even more efficiently by sending petitions directly to voters who request them. By combining this mail program with our already robust field circulating program, our goal is to surpass the number of required signatures by the time we turn in.”

Mop Up Michigan is advancing a ballot initiative that would prohibit regulated electric and gas utilities, major government contractors, and entities with substantial ties to them from making direct or indirect campaign contributions to candidates and electeds who oversee their industries.

Mop Up Michigan is currently collecting signatures to send the petition to the state legislature and ultimately, to the ballot for voters to decide, if the state legislature does not act within 40 days. More than 80% of Michigan voters support banning political donations from regulated monopolies.

Michigan voters who want to sign Mop Up Michigan can request a mailed petition by going to https://mopupmichigan.org/petition/.
