STATEMENT: Michiganders for Money Out of Politics Slams Consumers Energy’s Massive Rate Hike Request, Vows Voters Will “Say No to Corporate Greed” this November
MICHIGAN – Following Consumers Energy’s request yesterday to raise power rates by $456 million, the largest electric rate increase in more than 20 years – and for the second year in a row – Sean McBrearty, Co-Chair, Michiganders for Money Out of Politics Steering Committee, released the following statement:
“If this nearly half-a-billion-dollar rate hike request isn’t a clear sign that utilities like Consumers Energy need to stop buying our politicians, then I don’t know what is. Michigan’s pay-to-play political system only emboldens powerful corporations, and Michiganders overwhelmingly agree that our government should work for the people, not corporations.
That is why in November, voters will say no to corporate greed and corporate money influencing our politics by saying yes to Michiganders for Money out of Politics.”
