LANSING, MI – Michigan’s top election board advanced a ballot proposal seeking to ban for-profit utilities and some of the state’s largest corporations from flooding state politics with campaign cash.
The Board of State Canvassers voted Friday, July 24 to certify that the Michiganders for Money Out of Politics petition initiative collected enough valid voter signatures to qualify for potential placement on the November midterm election ballot.
The measure challenges corporate influence in Lansing and has the potential to transform the flow of political money in Michigan. It’s already been hotly contested and will likely face further legal challenges before being allowed to reach voters.
